The Stalking Show Newcomer Project
The Stalking Show Newcomer Project gives people a chance to explore deer management and wild venison properly. It’s about understanding how the sector works, what it stands for, and deciding for themselves whether — and how — they might want to be involved or support it in future.
The Stalking Show Newcomer Project is designed to open the door to the deer management and wild venison sector for people who are curious, interested, or seeking a better understanding before committing to any particular pathway.
It recognises that newcomers arrive with different motivations. Some may go on to become deer stalkers or wildlife managers. Others may become wild venison advocates, food business owners, land managers, volunteers, supporters, or simply informed voices who better understand the role deer management plays in animal welfare, food systems and nature recovery.
All of these outcomes are valid.
The project is not about recruitment or fast-tracking people into a single role. Instead, it offers a supported opportunity to explore the sector, meet the community, understand its values, and see how responsible deer management operates in practice.
Public and political interest in deer, wildlife management and wild venison is increasing — often faster than understanding.
Many people lack clear insight into:
- why deer management is necessary
- how welfare standards are applied in practice
- how deer management connects to food systems, biodiversity and land use
The stalking show Newcomer Project addresses this need by building understanding before misinformation, assumptions or barriers take hold.
